How do you calculate how much yarn you need?
The formula for recalculating yarn quantities when substituting yarn.
The formula
Number of balls in the pattern × metres per ball (original yarn) = total metres. Total metres ÷ metres per ball (new yarn) = number of balls. Always round up.
Example
The pattern requires 6 balls at 91 m each = 546 m. Your new yarn has 100 m per ball. 546 ÷ 100 = 5,46, so 6 balls.
If you hold two strands together
Calculate each strand separately. Mohair held together with a main yarn requires the same number of metres as the main yarn.
